What's the Talk About?
Between the ages of 16 and 27, I spent nearly seven years in solitary confinement. With no gym and almost no movement, I discovered something unexpected: pushups and body-weight exercise could regulate my mental state. While many prisoners around me deteriorated physically and psychologically, daily exercise gave me stability, clarity, and purpose.
Years later, I learned the biology behind that experience. Physical exertion changes brain chemistry. It regulates stress hormones, increases mood-enhancing endocannabinoids, and helps interrupt cycles of anxiety and rumination. In other words, exercise doesn’t just build muscle—it recalibrates the nervous system.
Train Your Happiness is a keynote about using physical discipline to improve mental resilience. Drawing on more than 30 years of fitness experience, scientific research, and hard-earned personal lessons, this talk explores how movement can become one of the most powerful tools we have for managing stress, sharpening focus, and building emotional strength.
In a modern world filled with psychological stress but very little physical exertion, learning to intentionally challenge the body may be one of the most effective ways to stabilize the mind.
